Huge variety within walking distance. Bella Terra Mall has a plethora of choices from chain restaurants for families to newer fusion restaurants and everything in between. Down by the pier there are several really good old skool local places along with newer eclectic places.

Slightly less intimidating than Disneyland and a little closer either by Beach Blvd or the Freeway it's always a great place to explore if the theme parks are what you're after

Cars in So Cal are your best bet
This is California and more specifically OC and SoCal so cars are always going to be faster. There is the OC bus station across from my place but those really are negligible. Ridesharing/ Carsharing are other options as well as renting bikes at the beach or electric skooters.

There's a fantastic farmer's market next door and a larger one that's down by the pier as well as 1st Fridays that happen over at Golden West College for eclectic local flavors of food, fun, and music.
