3.5 mile natural sand spit protecting Port Angeles harbor overlooking the Straits of Juan de Fuca and overlooking Vancouver Island. A great place to watch the tankers and cargo ships come into to fuel ,observe the pilot boats meeting the cargo ships out in the straits, home to two submarine escort ships. Coast Guard is at the eastern end of the hook so off limits but you can see the heliocopters coming and going and sometimes doing manuevers. You can walk the beaches or just sit and look for whales and marine mammals both in the harbor and out in the straits. Keep an eye out for painted rocks as a local rock group often leaves them on "the hook" and around town
