WINE - MUSIC - BEER - FOOD MONDAYS ARE BEST Bacchanal isn't like any other spot in town. Definitely off the beaten path, Bacchanal is a hybrid hang out that attracts artists, foodies and locals to chill, graze and listen to live music on the edge of the Bywater. The vibe is nonchalant whether you nibble cheese and charcuterie in the ramshackle courtyard or tuck into more substantial eats in the gastro pub upstairs. And of course, befitting its namesake, Bacchanal serves a decadent selection of wines by the glass or bottle. There's also a wine store up front if you need to stock up. On a sunny weekend day, there's no better hang in town.

WINE - Patrick's Bar Vin in the Mazarin Hotel is an intimate wine bar that, though located not far from Bourbon Street in the Quarter is an oasis of refined good taste and delicious vin. The crowd tends to be older, enjoying options like 20-plus selections available by the glass and surroundings both elegant and upscale. If Patrick is in the house, and he usually is, he's always happy to make suggestions. Or even better, just order whatever he's drinking and you won't be disappointed. There's a lovely plant filled courtyard for drinking al fresco. You can order plates of cheese and charcuterie for sharing.

DANCE - This chill venue situated on the Canal Street streetcar line is a locals' fave thanks to its eclectic line up, great food and grown up vibe. Expect an older crowd of mostly locals since not too many tourists find their way to this friendly club, even though it's not hard to find. If you're lucky, award winning UK blues pianist Jon Cleary, who lives in the neighborhood, will be playing his regular Tuesday gig. Showtimes are generally on the earlier side than you'll find elsewhere, and often there's one artist early on and another at 10 or 11 pm. DANCE - TUESDAYS ARE BEST - High ceilings, rich brown paneling, and a long, sleek bar adorn this attractive space, housed in an old Marigny building. JAZZ - Traditional jazz music emanates nightly from the Palm Court Jazz Cafe on Decatur, not far from the French Market. The ambiance is classic and the house musicians, who most likely have been playing for decades, start at 8pm. Although the Creole menu can be hit or miss, this place is ever-popular with locals and visitors alike, including families with kids. The crowd tends to be older, but the dance floor is rarely empty. The decor features exposed brick walls, tiled floors and a decadently attractive mahogany bar. This is the place banjo talent Danny Barker praised in his song "Palm Court Strut." DANCE - MONDAYS ARE BEST Before St. Claude Avenue was "cool," before there were restaurants opening every other week along this Bywater stretch, the Saturn was there. There's a great juke box and live music on a regular basis, but the real night to dance like a fool is the monthly Saturday night Mod Dance Party - an evening of 60s swagger powered by DJ Matty and DJ Kristen, who stick to a soundtrack of solely vinyl from the period. Put on some lashes, tease the hair and done your best pucci knock off mini-dress, and you'll fit right in. The view from the upstairs balcony is killer.
WATCH THE GAME -Open damn near 24 hours. That's what's on the tired looking awning outside of Chuck's Sports Bar, a solid dive bar located on a quiet street less than a mile from the Superdome. Cheap, strong drinks, a mostly local clientele, including plenty of bartenders late night makes Chuck's a gritty gem. There's a pool table and a digital jukebox, but don't come hungry. No chow is served but you are welcome to bring something in if you like. You won't confuse this place for the Polo Lounge at the five-star Windsor Court Hotel two blocks away, but Chuck's is a keeper.

WATCH THE GAME -Tracey's was the original bar in the Irish Channel, opened in 1949 with new fangled comforts like air conditioning - a rarity back in the day. Also the first in the 'hood with color TV, Tracey's drew local crowds from the start. Its current location is on Magazine Street, and although it had been shuttered for some time, Jeffery Carreras reopened in 2010, bringing his famous recipe for roast beef po'boys to the bar along with a great beer list. Potent drink specials and 20 TVs tuned to the game makes Tracey's a top stop for visitors wanting to catch their home team while on the road for business or pleasure.

DRINK - Snake and Jake's is the preeminent dive-bar in New Orleans, and maybe the world. Housed in what seems to be a tiny battered down shack in the middle of Uptown, this place is great to go to in the wee hours of the morning, when you could care less who or what you are surrounded by. Schlitz is the beer of choice here, and interesting characters make up the entire population of this joint. It is definitely advised to come here with someone who knows the area or has at least been to "Snakes" before. Just look for the Christmas lights on an aluminum sided shack on Oak Street and you'll know you found the spot.

QUARTER DINNER -This quaint little neighborhood spot perfectly exemplifies what makes the French Quarter so special: even on its boundary streets, you're bound to find something that will charm and surprise. Though locals usually occupy the tables at Meauxbar each night, these snug yet easygoing quarters welcome all-comers. Another bonus is that conversation is welcome (and audible) at this intimate space, making date night especially romantic. But of course, it's the cookery that truly sets the place apart

WINE SHOP - This forward thinking little wine shop and lounge is a bright spot of vin culture along the emerging artsy St. Claude corridor that flanks the Marigny, Bywater and the Seventh Ward. Specializing in high quality, small production wines from around the world, Faubourg (say FO-burg) calls itself a "friendly and fearless" neighborhood wine shop and that's not an overstatement. You don't find the mass produced brands carried in supermarkets here, in fact you might not recognize many (or any) of the labels on the shelves. The place is intimate, and ideal place to break from strolling and shipping for a glass or three. Wine flights and half-glasses give the curious drinker plenty of options for discovery. The pool tables are covered up with hard tops to make more seating available on game days. Their beer list may be the most comprehensive of any bar
MARIGNY DINNER - Polished elegance isn't a bellwether of the restaurants in the Marigny and Bywater neighborhoods in New Orleans. Intimate and inviting, this restaurant lives in New Orleans but would be at home in any big city. Chef Baruch Rabasa forgoes traditional New Orleans fare for a menu that is both modern and French inspired. Most of the small plates are intriguing, especially slices of tender rare filet served ala mode with foie gras ice cream. Oysters are available raw or grilled with garlic butter or fried with a luscious white remoulade on the side. There is an interesting wine list as well as a fine array of craft cocktails.

GD DINNER - Victorian facade of Commander's Palace in the Garden District of New Orleans has been the site of five-star dining since 1880, and a hallmark of the Brennan family since 1974. The kitchen that gave the world Paul Prudhomme and Emeril Lagasse is now the domain of James Beard Award winning chef Tory McPhail. Everything is good, but don't miss any featured gumbo, the chargrilled oyster stew with kale, bacon and cream and local fish crusted with spiced pecans.

GD DINNER - Coquette is a Garden District stunner, from its gleaming floors and crisp linens to its architectural details and warm exposed brick walls. The Garden District building was built in the late 1880's and has been among other things a residence, grocery store, auto parts store and several restaurants. Chef Stoltzfus, who honed his craft as sous chef at Restaurant August, proffers innovative southern cuisine with an emphasis on locally sourced product. The three course, $23 lunch is a great deal. A few not to miss dishes include the housemade charcuterie plate and striped bass served with kohlrabi and kumquat in a clam broth spiked with jalapeno.

CBD DINNER -In 2018 it will be 100 years since Arnaud Cazenave, a colorful, French wine salesman, founded the grand New Orleans restaurant bearing his name with a commitment to serving quality Creole cuisine. Have three distinct experiences here, live music and a more casual atmosphere in the Jazz Bistro, a romantic dinner in the main dining room, or cocktails in the French 75 Bar. QUARTER DINNER - Chef Alfred Singleton, who worked his way up from busboy to chef until Katrina devastated the restaurant, is now back in the kitchen. And more than that, Singleton, who has spent the past decade working at restaurants including Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse, is also a partner with owner Craig Napoli, whose seafood business assures the freshest gulf catch on the seafood-centric menu. Outstanding French-Creole cuisine including the likes of blue crabcakes and an amazing turtle soup laced with sherry is served under the watchful eyes of a bawdy George Dureau mural
