Belém Tower is a fortified tower located in Belém. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site because of the significant role it played in the Portuguese maritime discoveries of the era of the Age of Discoveries. The tower was commissioned by King John II to be part of a defence system at the mouth of the Tagus river and a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon.

Quite beautiful, and yes tropical looking, park is great to do after visiting the tower and cathedral of Belém. It is very well maintained, lush and full if bird life. Nice place to come relax and, even better, it's fairly quiet and not that touristy at all. Admission is only €2 so definitely go check it out.

Nice place to come relax and, even better, it's fairly quiet and not that touristy at all. Admission is only €2 so definitely go check it out.
