There are many tourist attractions in the area around Malang Raya ranging from natural, historical, cultural and various other attractions. But among these various places, one of the oldest and most unique in the Malang area is the Wendit bathing tour or by local people commonly referred to as Mendit. The tourist park which is located in the village of Mangliawan, Pakis District, Malang Regency has a quite strategic location because it is at the entrance to the city of Malang from Abdurahman Saleh airport. From the city center of Malang, the distance is not too far and only about 8 Kilometers. Recreational parks have two types of pools, both natural and artificial. Artificial ponds, especially those that have been equipped with various facilities such as waterbooms, have only been made recently, especially since the massive renovation of this tourist spot. Meanwhile, the existing natural pool has been used since the past and is believed to have been the resting place of King Hayam Wuruk of Majapahit. The name Wendit itself comes from the word wendito which means pendito or priest. A story says that the Wendit water source appeared due to the shifting of the Widodaren mountain. This shift caused many areas to become dry, until finally a priest did meditation in the Mangliawan area and a water source appeared which was later named Wendit. Apart from the very old bath, one thing that is interesting is the monkeys that are in the Wendit area. According to local people's stories, the number of these monkeys will never increase and decrease from time to time. This monkey is called a messenger from a kingdom in Tengger to protect the spring in Wendit. There are various stories about the benefits of water in this Wendit bath. Many people believe that this spring can provide healing in disease, facilitate mate and sustenance to come and make you stay young. During the Dutch colonial period, Wendit was converted into a resting place and baths equipped with tennis courts and planted with many trees to resemble a small forest. It was damaged and neglected when the Japanese occupation came, after that this tourist spot was repaired again and has become a destination for many people until now.
