The Lambertville wingdam is an incredible place easily accessible by the NJ towpath, after a 12 minute drive to Lambertville. It’s slightly off the beaten path but a local favorite location and a great destination when the water level isn’t too high. Walk out on the wingdam and enjoy an intimate view of the Delaware, go fishing or read a book. Walk out at your own risk however, as when the water level is high after rain it can be dangerous! When the river flows over the wingdam the rapids in between the NJ and PA arms can reach up to class 3 rapids. A good rule of thumb is, if you can’t see the wingdam because the water is flowing over, don’t walk out there! On nice days enjoy the views but do not go swimming in the center of the wingdam! It is however a popular destination for experienced kayakers who want to do easily accessible rapids runs—but kayakers be sure to wear a life jacket and helmet, and as always respect the river!
