The Holbert Trail is an out and back 5 miles round trip hike of moderate difficulty. Early on in the hike you’ll enjoy a handful of fascinating petroglyphs that have stood the test of time. This beginning section is fairly easy before you start the more strenuous incline. Follow the signs with H’s on them which mark the Holbert Trail. You’ll only break from those markers when you see the sign saying Dobbins Ext which will lead you to the Dobbins Lookout. From the lookout you’ll experience spectacular views of Phoenix. It’s a popular place at nighttime for watching the sunset and taking in the city lights. It is possible to just drive straight up to Dobbins Lookout and skip the hike all together which is why the lookout can become crowded at certain times of the day from people driving to the top to check out the views.

Beautiful winding trail through the South Mountain park range. Do not hike without water, a small snack, and sunscreen. Make sure to only hike in early morning hours during the summer, if at all.
