Faust Vrančić, born in Šibenik in 1551, was a man of a brilliance that made him a distinguished figure among the greatest minds of the Renaissance. He was the author of a five-language dictionary called The Dictionary of the Five Noblest Languages of Europe. In his work Machinae Novae Vrančić described 56 different contraptions and technical solutions. The ingenuity of his mind is evident in the images of projects that only could have been carried out a century later following new physical and technical discoveries. Memorial center Faust Vrančić in Prvić Luka is the place where visitors can learn about life and work of this genious and see the collection of his inventions and written works.

Why not explore the islands? Take a ferry to Prvic island, get off at Prvic Luka, visit the memorial center of Faust Vrancic, the croatian inventer (16. century) of parachute. I know, I know, you must think, Leonardo da Vinci was the first inventor, but this humanist from Sibenik made first sketches of a parachute which is a predecessor of modern ones, and while Leonardo only draw one, Faust actually constructed it and jumped with! Yes, he survived. 😉 You will discover many of his inventions, and it is also very interesting for kids. And of course, there are beautiful beaches to complete your experience of Prvic island.
