The Gion House, Lower level apartment

The Gion House Lower Level is the entire ground floor of the house. Its features include elegant antique sliding doors, antique light fixtures, and traditional design details, combined with luxurious, modern features like radiant heating under the wooden floors, an oversized stone bath area, and wireless high-speed Internet. The bath and kitchen are entirely new and modern and fully equipped. There is a washer and dryer. This unit has a large, traditional "genkan" with stone step, which is typical of Japanese machiya. After removing your shoes, you step up, into a warm and cozy environment, with many architectural features that are particular to a traditional Japanese house. Whenever possible, natural materials are used...wood, paper, tatami, glass, and steel. One can see that modern elements have been integrated with the old ones. There is radiant heating under the floors, to keep the room warmer in the Winter than your typical heating system. There is a fully equipped kitchen with high quality utensils and ceramic dishware made in Kyoto. There are two bedrooms. One is Japanese style, with a double futon on the tatami mat floors and ceilings of washi (traditional Japanese paper.) The other bedroom has wood flooring, with a very solid and comfortable double bed. Both bedrooms have ample closet space. The living area is adjacent to its own interior garden, which is private. There is a sofa, and there is also a dining table placed over a traditional Japanese "horikatsu," an open space in the floor, which allows for comfortable seating. Throughout are antique lighting fixtures and sliding doors, in addition to antique tansu chests and intricately handcrafted woodwork, which is also antique. The exceptional design feature of this unit is the high-end, custom-built bath and shower area, which is made of stone. The oversized bath tub large enough for three persons. There is a private view of the interior garden from the bath tub. The house is over 100 years old. You'll enjoy the luxury and ambiance of the Gion House, and the location can't be beat for a memorable Kyoto experience in the very special part of town called Gion. Kyoto accommodation tax of ¥400 per person per night is included in rates.

The room is kids friendly. About 450 sqft, the room is Japanese style but catered to modern lifestyle. If you enjoy a local touch with the proper room when visiting Kyoto, we are certainly the right fit for you! We designed the room with love and care for little kids, because we have a little girl too. The room is safe and friendly for little kids. No sharp or pointy spot in the room. Low furniture, but all the plug-ins are highly positioned. And of course, we will try to accommodate any special requests for you. You are in good hands if you are looking for good room and personal service during your kyoto visit. Guest room and first floor. ***The apartment is on the second or third floor, no elevator! ***We offer laundry service, washer & dryer with a starting charge of ¥2500 per load(washer & dryer). ***An extra set of futon will be done at a charge of ¥2000 Yen per request.( i.e. 3 pax wants 4 sets, the fourth set will be charged ¥2000 yen) ***The TV in the room is only for YouTube and streaming service if you have your own account. This is one of our 11 apartment-type accommodations. It is about a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station and a 4-minute walk from Kintetsu Toji Station. The city bus stop called Kujo Omiya is also a very short walk away. The Railway Museum and Kyoto Aquarium are also nearby. They opened in April 2016 at Umekouji Park, which is only about a 7-minute walk. From the balcony, you can enjoy the view of the World Heritage Site, Toji Temple’s Five-Story Pagoda (“Goju no to”).
