When you cross the river from Malgas's side, you can visit Witsand.
Witsand offers great fishing, a market, a great estuary lagoon (as the Breede River flows to the ocean at Witsand), and unique cafes.
You can also launch your boat at the Pont and Moore it at our jetty.
En-route to the Malagas Pont from the River House, you will pass a Church built in 1855. It is still operational.

It is home to a colony of endangered Cape Vultures.
Hikers and Mountain Bikers experience close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape Mountain Zebra, Eland, baboons, and Ostrich.
Day visitors are welcome.
De Hoop's beaches are one of the hidden secrets of the whale season. As far as shore-based whale watching goes, Koppie Alleen and Klipkoppie are unbeatable.
The famous Whale Trail starts in the Potberg area and ends in De Hoop. It is a 5-day, 55km hike from Potberg to Koppie Alleen.

- lounging on large lilos
- kayaking etc.
And if you just want to relax, enjoy our wood-fired hot tub.

Directions to the River House.
• Take the N2, past Caledon and Riviersonderend.
• 3km before Swellendam – take the gravel road to your right – Malgas/Infanta
• Follow this road for approximately 40km
• At the Trading Post (on your right) – turn left – Area 2/Malgas Hotel
• After 2km turn left to Malagas Hotel. (Going straight will take you to the Ferry that crosses the Breede River. This road takes you to Witsand.)
• Pass Hotel – carry on for another kilometer.
• There will be a small hill whereafter the house will be on your right – a lane Chinese Poplars to the river.

Bring enough bottled water
All the water in the house is from the river.
It is safe to drink but the colour & taste is not that great.
We have a H2O water fountain that take 20-25l H2O bottles – you are welcome to bring your own and use the fountain.

• Spick and span cleaning services - 076 338-4395 (try and book 3 days in advance, however over the high season, book as soon as you know you are going to Malgas. They send 4 ladies and 1 supervisor and a 3 bedroom house take +-1hr.)

Buy food and other essentials before hand
It is best to buy everything you need (food, drink, etc) before you come. However should you forget something, the house is located close to the Trading Post which offers some essential food and other items. The house has a Nespresso coffee machine, so you can pack Nespresso pods, however some pods are included in your welcome pack.

Mosquitos and flies sometimes a nuisance.
We would recommend packing Tabard or something similar for mosquitos, it can be a problem sometimes. We have a dairy farm just opposite the river from us, therefore flies may sometimes be a problem.

The River house has a jetty, but no slip way. You can launch your boat at the Pont. Any other river activities are also welcome (e.g SUP, canoe etc.)
