Cádiz - eat and drink

Gastronomía

Something different: At lunch time people like to eat at the "mercado central". It´s the central market of cadiz where people buy their fruit and vegetables. But now there are also places to eat lunch. It´s very easy going, great andalusian atmosphere. We like the place called "la Sarten". They make a lot of very different kinds of tortillas. You have to try it. But there are also different places. Maybe you are not that hungry and just get a glas of wine and cheese. Do you like olives? Everytime we go to Cadiz we buy our aceitunas at "Matias" at the mercado central. He let´s you try every kind he has before buying. We really like them! If you are at the market you really have to look for that place!!!!

Balandro. It´s a restaurant and a bar. From the outside it looks a little posh, and you only see the restaurant-part. Don´t eat in the part of the restaurant which means at the tables (more expensive), eat at the bar like the people from Cadiz do. it´s very popular with people from Cadiz. Not a lot of tourists there. It´s a special, more modern place. And the food is sometimes also a more modern interpretation of the Andalusian tapas and very good quality. It´s not that cheap like other places, but the tapas are quite big! It´s really worth the try!

Churros. the typical andalusian breakfast. Between the big post office and the mercado central there are little casitas making fresh churros. You can buy them there and some bars around allow you to bring the churros into the bar/ restaurant, so you order just your coffee and eat the fresh churros.

La Bodeguilla de Cadiz Breakfast: you can have simple and cheap breakfast at a lot of places. It´s mostly "tostada" or "mollete" with tomate o jamon and a cafe con leche. We found a place we like a lot. It´s very Andalusian and for every day. People take breakfast there before going to work. La Bodeguita de Cadiz: Calle San Pedro. Mollete con tomate (tomate triturado o salmorejo - you put it on your bread - as much as you like), coffee and a fresh orange juice.
