Absecon Lighthouse is one of the oldest and tallest lighthouses in the U.S. (tallest in NJ and 3rd tallest masonry lighthouse in the U.S.). Built in 1857, it is on the National Register of Historic Places and boasts a 228-step climb to the top. The views, from the top, of South Inlet and the Atlantic are hard to beat. Make this a short stop on your way to the beach or Ocean Casino Resort. Admission is usually $10 per adult but there are discounts for children, seniors, college students and more. If you are in a group, you should check Groupon for deals. They close early and allow the last climbers through a half hour before closing. Don’t miss this historic landmark during your visit! It is a 5 minute drive or an 15-18 minute walk from our Eco Home Airbnb in Downtown.
